Teams of Impro legends mixed with celebrity guests go head-to-head in a battle of wits—competing for audience laughs and the judges’ scores. All in a quest to win the coveted Celebrity TheatreSports™ Cup …and support a wonderful cause, Canteen.

It’s Thank God You’re Here meets Whose Line Is It Anyway? You’ll see teams thrown in the deep end to play classic and audience-favourite TheatreSports™ games, comic scenes, songs, epic adventures and improvised musicals with a twist. See who can make the audience (and the judges) laugh loudest.

Feature-Sessions on the Pier: Time & Tide

Now in its 3rd edition, Sydney Chamber Choir’s much-loved concert series fusing classical, jazz and popular song returns - this time welcoming Spring & celebrating the beauty of the changing seasons.

Presented in the intimate surrounds of The Neilson at Walsh Bay on Pier 2/3 by the harbour, this program invites audiences to experience the year’s cycle through music of warmth, reflection & joy.

Led by Sam Allchurch as well as Naomi Crellin and Nick Begbie (from the award-winning a cappella ensemble The Idea of North), the Choir joins forces with a superb jazz trio to explore the shifting moods of nature and time.

Benjamin Britten’s radiant The Succession of the Four Sweet Months and Joe Twist’s On the Night Train capture the poetry of the natural world in timeless choral writing. These are paired with imaginative arrangements of beloved favourites, including the Beatles’ Here Comes the Sun, the Beach Boys’ Their Hearts Were Full of Spring, Gershwin’s Summertime from Porgy and Bess, and the jazz classic Autumn Leaves, made famous by Nat King Cole.

Blending elegance, swing and lyrical beauty, Time & Tide offers a captivating evening where genres meet, voices shimmer, and the turning of the year is celebrated in music of light, colour and grace.

Artistic director and conductor Sam Allchurch said the choir had hugely enjoyed bringing audience a new way of experiencing the Sydney Chamber Choir in jazz-infused programs brought together by the ‘incomparable’ Naomi Crellin.

“Time and Tide is our latest instalment, exploring the different seasons of our lives in the intimate atmosphere of the Nielson on Pier 2/3. Naomi has arranged some of the best jazz classics with witty and beautiful twists which sit alongside some moments of a cappella stillness.”

Naomi Crellin added: “This program is close to my heart as it marries my first love of classical choral harmony with my evolution into the lush expression of jazz harmony. The repertoire demands a deeper connection to lyric and intent, and gives the choir the freedom to express itself on a different level. Having the opportunity to direct this fine ensemble and be trusted to guide them outside their comfort zone is a great privilege.”

After Dinner took us back to the 1980s with decor, fashion, black stockings and not a mobile phone in sight. The scene was set in a dining/entertainment venue with apricot tablecloths and chairs with touches of gold. With echoes of the television series, Kath and Kim and a little of The Office, the cast threw themselves into a by-gone era of dancing and romancing.

The audience first meets Gordon played by Oliver Wilson. He is a world-weary and sad man in a baggy 1980s suit recently separated from his wife. As he waits for two office colleagues, two women appear at a nearby table. Dympie played by Chantal Harrison enters with a classic 1980s side ponytail and wearing a blue satin dress and stockings. Paula, played by Noa Besser, dressed in what appears to be a genuine padded 1980s ensemble in purple is Dympie’s friend. Immediately it appears that Dympie is one of those people where her life is ‘my way or the highway’. Having no real social intelligence, she rearranges the table to suit her needs. Paula wants to be up close to the band but Dympie is having none of that and chooses a table at the back. Paula reluctantly gives in. They are absolute opposites.

Later, another colleague, Monica, played by Claire Gandy, joins as a grieving widow. At first, social etiquette tries to skirt around death with some funny moments and comments during an awkward conversation. Claire plays the role with enthusiasm and great comedic timing. We are there for her and the audience responded laughing at the intimate and embarrassing details of a mundane marriage. Her two colleagues listen in horror with Dympie shutting down the conversation only focusing on her hunger.

There are funny moments during ordering dinner as the throwback to 1980s menus and drinks is explained. All agree that they only order a carafe of white wine, either dry or not too sweet as they haven’t a clue. Claire unravels at the table with Gordon overhearing the drama. He is joined by his colleague Stephen, played convincingly by Nicholas Berthold. Stephen is looking for women and is a clichéd 1980s banker and ‘women’s man’. The outpouring of men’s issues between Gordon and Stephen is funny and revealing and acted with suitable embarrassment regarding ‘men’s talk’.

As the evening develops, in one of the best scenes of the play, Claire Gandy portrays the most genuine, angry and frustrated woman who is all pathos and suppression, seeking answers about wasting her life. She reveals all in a hilarious authentic monologue. The men become involved and with great comedic timing we see the fumbling and bumbling of both sexes.

With 1980s music reminiscent of a pub band in the background, the third male colleague never appearing and the desperate need for any of them to pair off, the conversations are both funny and bittersweet. Not one person was scrolling, trolling or texting, it was all about the language and social comments about dating, dancing and finding love.

Show Up! Brings Variety Back To Sydney

A new monthly live entertainment spectacular launches at Darling Quarter Theatre on Monday 19 October.

Show Up!, a new monthly live variety spectacular hosted and created by Australian entertainer and producer Nick Hardcastle, officially launches at Darling Quarter Theatre on Monday 19 October 2026, presented by Century Venues.

Bringing the spirit of the great variety show into a contemporary live setting, Show Up! brings together music, comedy, cabaret, circus, conversation, emerging talent, established stars and unexpected guests for a show where the audience never quite knows who, or what, is going to Show Up!

Hardcastle has spent almost two decades creating and producing live entertainment experiences across London, Los Angeles and Australia. Show Up! brings those worlds together with an intentional homage to the great Australian variety formats of the past that are currently absent from our live scene and our TV screens.

“I love creating community around live work - that’s why I have been doing it for so long! I’m so excited by what Show Up! can offer Sydney audiences and artists and look forward to it becoming a staple of the Sydney entertainment scene.” Says creator and host Nick Hardcastle.

At a time when Sydney’s live entertainment scene is looking for community and support, Show Up! creates a platform where the extraordinary artists already performing across the city, along with artists touring through Sydney, can see each other’s work, promote their shows and reach a new audience.

One night might feature a star from a major musical alongside a recording artist, a comedian and a circus performer. Another might introduce an emerging artist followed by a television favourite, drag icon, international visitor or Broadway performer.

Shot in a multicam set up, the event will also be available online to watch on YouTube and for artists to share among their fan base and followers, and presents a great opportunity for producers and brands to also extend their reach.

After an initial event in November 2025 at the Grand Electric, Century Venues are proud to be the new presenting partner for Show Up! Previous artists have included Phil Burton (Human Nature), Jason Arrow (Hamilton), Tyrone Noonan (George), Catherine Alcorn and regular contributors include Nikki Webster and the Nikki Webster dancers.

The first event at the Darling Quarter Theatre on Monday October 19, will feature a 20th Anniversary Tribute to Australia’s most successful theatrical export of all time, Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical with appearances from original cast members Tony Sheldon, Marney McQueen, Genevieve Lemon and more!

For audiences, it’s the chance to experience some of Australia’s most exciting performers up close from the big shows they love or haven’t yet seen, alongside music and comedy artists, surprise guests and the next generation of talent in a completely unique night of entertainment where anything can happen!

Established and emerging performers across music, theatre, comedy, cabaret, circus, dance and other live disciplines are invited to register their interest in appearing either as a feature artist or in the Show Off! segment, hosted by Nicky NoPants, where we aim to discover talent and award great prizes. Show Up! provides high production values on a great Sydney stage on which to perform, experiment, collaborate, get great content and be discovered by a new audience.

For producers, casting professionals and the wider entertainment industry, Show Up! is a new avenue to promote their shows and cast members, creating a regular opportunity to see artists outside their existing roles and discover new performers.

Following its launch on 19 October, Century Venues is delighted to present Show Up! monthly on Mondays at Darling Quarter Theatre, establishing a regular home for the new variety format in the heart of Sydney.
